Welcome to Japanese Language & Culture Training Program at IBM

This program will be conducted through the Vermont Business Center.

Program Objectives:

* To provide IBM participants with the fundamentels of the Japanese Language - Basic, everyday, survival language skills - to show support for their Japanese colleagues and improve communication among the groups.

* To provide IBM participants with an understanding of Japanese culture, cultural elements in business environment (e.g. how to frame issues and problems), and cultural differences between Japan and America (e.g. gift-giving and taboo) to promote collaboration and an appreciation of cultural differences.

* To enhance sense of community between the IBM Essex group and their Japanese collaborators and reduce the risk of offending a Japanese colleague with inappropriate behavior or expressions.
